After an always annoying rush and wait and standing in line for check in I'm now in at Gate D3 in Terminal 2 of Frankfurt Airport. Security check was actually pleasant as the staff was friendly and helpful. They wanted to check my flashlight however as they have probably not seen a scuba diving flashlight :).
I'm now waiting to board the British Airways plane for my first leg to Hawaii. From Frankfurt it's only a short hop to London Heathrow where I will board the connecting American Airlines flight AA 109 to Los Angeles. Let's hope I don't have to long to walk in the huge Heathrow terminals.
One rather strange thing. It looks like I have to reclaim my baggage in Los Angeles to go through customs to enter the United States. Don't they have international customs on Kauai? It does seem strange. However maybe there is only international customs in Honolulu. Kauai is after all a small island belonging to the US, even if it is a 5 hrs flight from Los Angeles and an additional 3 time zones to Lihue.
Let's wait and see.
